Pakistan Friend OR Foe

Pakistan Friend or Foe
Pakistan is supposed to be a long term friend to the United States of America and an ally against the fight on terror.
Since September 11, 2001 our intelligence forces have searched for Asama Bin Laden with the help of the Inter-Service Intelligence or the Pakistani intelligence. For quite some time it was believe by Laden was hiding out in mountainous caves and tunnels of Afghanistan. There was chatter about this murderous man with the ability to elude capture due to Afghan tribal protection and the fact he was out of Pakistani rule. We all saw the videos of the male figure riding a donkey across the rocky and isolated terrains. Many speculated that Bin Laden may be hiding out in Pakistan with the indirect help of the Pakistan Government. Former Pakistan president Pervez Musharraf has denied this as well as Azif Ali Zadari, the current president of Pakistan.

Afghan mountain

On May 1, 2011 Asama Bin Laden was killed in a three level multimillion dollar mansion in Abbottabad. This is the tenth largest city in Pakistan it's about 30 miles from Islamabad the capital of Pakistan and it's less than a hours car drive from the Pakistan's military head Quarters. With egg on his face Zadari denies having knowledge or helping hide Bin Laden. Zadari said, " He was never anywhere we anticipated him to be."

Not your average cave

Friend For Money

Pakistan has received over 20 billion dollars from the US. They will get at least 1.3 billion dollars of American tax payers money this year. I know we are not getting our moneys worth when I see the citizens of our so called allies chanting death to American in the streets because our navy seals killed the murderous man responsible for the taking of so many American lives during the 911 attacks.

Pakistani Protest

Friend or Foe
Pakistan appears to supports Haqqani network that attacked our Khost CIA base in 2009.
ISI has ties to Lash Kar-e-Taiba, the terrorist responsible for the attack in Mumbai.(10 trained Pakistani militants planned the shooting and bombing attack which killed 164 pe0ple).
The ISI says it's their job to infiltrate these groups and gather intelligence.
Although Pakistan has launched attacks against the Pakistan Taliban, their army steers clear of the Haqqani network which concentrates it's attacks on the US, NATO, and Afghans security forces in Afghanistan.
In the past Pakistan(ISI) has turned a blind eye to Taliban raids on coalition forces across the boarders and released information about US troop movements and capabilities.

Our government hasn't outright accused Pakistani officials of hiding Bin Ladin. I don't think they have to. He was living a pretty good life in a multimillion dollar mansion not far from the people that said they didn't have any idea where he was. Any country or group that would

knowingly harbor such a cold bloodied murder or turn a blind to his whereabouts are no friend of ours. I don't believe for one minute that Pakistani officials were oblivious to the whereabouts of this heinous killer.

Not all people of the region hate us. Some Pakistani citizens expressed joy over the death of Asama Bin Laden.

Very thought provoking Hub Mimi. Remaining allies with Pakistan is a necessary evil right now. I believe the top leaders of Pakistan did not know Osama was in Abbottabad but the military leaders clearly did. He was a mile away from a large military complex. We still get some assistance from Pakistan in tracking Al-Qaeda and there is that nasty fact that they have at least 100 nuclear bombs. Disengaging from Pakistan would leave them to their own devices with no U.S. influence on these nukes. I would love to tell Pakistan to take a hike but it would be irresponsible for the U.S. to do so.

Mimi, wonderful hub, truth be told with the whole Middle East exploding who knows about the future of the Pakistan government. I don't believe for one second we have a single true alliance in any of those countries, but we must always tread lightly and carry a big stick.

Every regime has folks within it whose acts are some times not consistent with the stated policies of that regime. Let our government say simply to the Pakistani 'you have a problem', and let them sort it out, and begin withdrawing the dollar support.

Target Number One is gone, and all that remains is a new number one.

I agree with the other comments. We should stop giving money to Pakistan. The money is needed here. It looks like we are hated there, and i question how Ben Laden could live among the community and them not know. I firmly believe that we should pull out troops out. Thank you for sharing.

Keep your friend close...and your enemies closer. Hmmm, should we drop relations with Pakistan...of course, not.

They are wild and free and Islamic and nuclear-powered...can we figure this out? Deception is part of the Eastern culture...is this a surprise...that Osama would be so visibly living the high life? No.

Bill Maher had Christine Amanpour prophesy that he was "in a wealthy villa in Pakistan," in the year 2008. So did we know, did intelligence agents of George Dubya's regime know this? Probably...so leave it to my favourite president Obama...to find the poor bastard...living in a wealthy villa in Pakistan.

Pull the troops, pull the funding, and let them do their own thing--America is broke and needs to start doing some R and D in discovering how to get their own populace smarter, wiser, working and cooperating.

First hint, get over the whole Democrat versus Republican party structure...and start a Centrist party that believes in wealth-building, job security, art, entertainment and the multiple ethnic varieties that live in America. Get over YOUR 'red neck' love affair--grow up--and be a 'mixing pot' of culture...not a 'melting pot'.

In a melting pot, everything moves to one opinion...in a mixing pot...you learn about other cultures and mix together. This is what we do in CANADA...it's easy, really.

Get rid of your 'Ugly American' persona, and embrace the world. It works really well in Canada and Europe. It's called "socialized democracy." Trust me, you already have a socialized democracy--your media and body politique just don't practice it correctly.

Great hub, sorry I 'spewed' for so long.
